The house is situated in a mountain village 3 kms above the pretty riverside town of Gois with views all around of the beautiful countryside and forests. At present it is licensed as an Alojamento Local being run as a holiday rental. The property has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard, the windows have shutters and are double glazed and the attic is insulated. The house is full of character and the location gives wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The clear night skies are full of stars and fantastic sunsets.

 

On the ground floor there is a large entrance hall with electric radiator, wardrobe with storage and two double bedrooms leading off, each with an ensuite shower room with heated towel rail, walk in closet and electric radiator. From the hall the pine staircase leads up to the first floor. At the top of the stairs there is a small study area (which takes a small single bed), a landing/cloakroom and a utility room with washing machine, washbasin and w.c.

 

From the landing there is a large open plan living room with original wooden ceilings consisting of lounge with a wood burning stove and electric radiator, dining area and a fitted kitchen with ample storage, free standing cooker and fridge freezer. There are 2 terraces from the living room , a large one to the front and a small one from the kitchen both  offering wonderful views over the tree tops and mountains.

 

There is a marble staircase leading down from the front terrace to the path round the house giving access to the enclosed secure garden at the rear which has orange and lemon trees, camellias and a hydrangea and jasmine hedge. Here there is a summer kitchen with sink unit, built in BBQ, and original working bread oven. A wonderful place for relaxing, dining and entertaining. There is a gas bottle storage/gardening room and wood store.

 

The house has wifi internet and a large satellite dish providing all UK channels as well as an aerial for receiving Portuguese TV.There are walks from the house in every direction along forest paths to enjoy the local flora and fauna and panoramic views. of forests, mountains and far off mountain villages.

 

The ancient town of Gois, only 2 miles away, has a supermarket, school,  banks, post office and several shops and coffee bars as well as restaurants, The riverside is a joy to walk along with several river beaches, waterside café/bars. There is a small market on a Tuesday down by the river where you can buy local produce and cheeses etc. and it is a good centre for touring the area and experiencing the real Portugal. There are numerous river beaches with safe swimming areas, BBQ’s and picnic spots some with canoes for hire. Other local activities include fishing, horse riding, cycling and walking.

 

Within easy motoring there is the ancient university city of Coimbra, the extensive Roman encampment at Conimbriga, the world heritage site of Piodao, the palace of Bucaco which is now a fine Hotel and Restaurant set in beautiful parkland through which you may roam at leisure. A little further afield but still within easy motoring is Figuera de Foz which is Central Portugal’s finest seaside resort with miles of silver sand.
