Quinta Cova do Ladrão (Thief Pit – Gold mining Archaeologist interest)

Farm on top of a mountain with lots of water and building in schist.

The Quinta Cova do Ladrão has about 2.5 Hectares with terraces and flat land for agriculture with forestry area. Lately this land has been used only for beekeeping, but has great agricultural potential as well as tourism or to live off the grid. With plenty of green enveloping the whole area, it is a preferred area for elk and boar, due to its seclusion, and stillness.

A few hundred meters away, in a place called the “Thief’s Pit”, in the 1950s, there were gold diggers exploring this area who mined in other gold mine on the other side of the mountain in Ribeira Cimeira.

Agriculture was no longer made in this place shortly after the rural exodus, around the 1960s.

There is a small village 1km away downstream and there is a good access trough a dirt track until the end of the land, two accesses for vehicles to the building and lots of clean fresh water running down all year round from the top of the land and crossing all the way and passing in front of the building. On the main road, about 3Km a restaurant with bar and groceries where you can get the essentials, and the village of Góis is only a 10 minute drive away where you will find all the amenities.
