Casa da figueira – PD0458

Property in central Portugal
Casa da Figueira
This sale is of a recently renovated, south facing, 4 bedroom house, with garden. Its location is a peaceful village at the head of a spectacular valley, a quiet spot amid beautiful countryside, the views from its sunny balcony are an absolute pleasure.
With a habitable area of 130m2 the property has been cleverly refurbished; restored to current standards it has a light and airy, contemporary look, the lines are clean and simple, nothing is cluttered, but the buildings’ past has been respected too – a very good balance of the modern and the traditional, a combination that has been carefully thought out.
The rooms, one of which has an open fire with brick surround, are of good size, have natural light and are simply decorated – white plasterwork, stained wood, tiles in either neutral shades or the customary blue and white, colours long established in many older Portuguese homes.
The kitchen, which is large enough to accommodate a table, has double sink, fitted cupboards and is ¾ tiled in in plain shades. The bathroom, again ¾ tiled, is roomy and is well laid out with good quality furniture, including a tub.
Please note that the recent work includes insulation, wood preservation, and the flat roof surface has been treated to prevent any potential rain water intrusion.
Outside there is a small ground floor terrace and a walled garden containing steps, paths and mature fruit trees. The lower ground floor cellar, reached by a covered inner courtyard provides ample storage for firewood, tools and a whole miscellany of odds and ends – it’s a very useful space for a rural house.
The locality is peaceful and unspoiled, but only 16 kilometres from the nearest town, where full services are to be found, including a medical clinic and schools. The house is ideal for either full time relocation, as holiday accommodation, or a combination of the two. It’s in an area where tourism is increasingly popular, one which is worth exploring, one with many small, hospitable communities, most of which have a café/bar, some a little mini-mart or market. There are some good restaurants and excellent River Beaches – it’s a great place for walking, biking and other outdoor pursuits, plus, amongst other events, there’s a festival going on, somewhere close by, most weekends over the summer. Road access is good with the major cities of Coimbra, Porto and Lisbon a comfortable drive, as is the Atlantic Coast, renowned for its beaches and surfing.
The property is in fine condition, has been fully redecorated – the new owner could move in immediately on completion if required.
Services: mains water and electricity, fossa (septic tank); bottled gas and firewood can be purchased locally; telephone and Internet would be available.
