Casas do Chafariz are two striking schist stone structures, purchased together, with the intention of turning them into a single habitable area. Set in a small hillside hamlet with magnificent panoramic views, they are close to the pretty town of Gois, but less than an hour’s drive from the beautifully preserved medieval city of Coimbra; the location, along with much else here, is picture-perfect.


Both buildings are two storeys with concrete floors. The smaller still waits for investment, but the larger 2 bedroom house has been fully restored, the classic simplicity of the external lines being enhanced by first rate workmanship. The well-made furniture, much of which is South African in manufacture, is not included in the asking price, but could be available for purchase under separate negotiation.


Year round comfort has been given much consideration. A wood burning stove, fitted into the fireplace of the kitchen/living area, provides central heating for cooler days; ceiling fans the ventilation for warmer ones. Should the next owner wish to use solar power, all fittings needed are in place for the installation of panels. Windows and doors are double glazed aluminum; there are even remote controlled ceiling lights in the bedrooms, both of which have insulated floating wood floors.


The local landscape is truly stunning and seating on both the 1st floor and roof level terraces allow you to enjoy it to the full. An equal amount of careful thought has been given to the planning of the well-manicured gardens. There are paved and gravelled courtyards, areas of lawn with flowerbeds and shrubs, a variety of fruit trees and an area set by for vegetable cultivation, watering is not a problem as the property has its own well.


A few moments by car is a village with a selection of cafes and restaurants – full amenities, shopping, a school, a doctor and a River Beach are 10 kilometers away.


For the buyer who is considering tourist accommodation, both major airports are a comfortable drive, as is the Atlantic Coast and a number of the other attractions that this brilliant part of central Portugal has to offer.
