Casas Picado

Property in central Portugal
Take the Sky Road across the Mountain of Açor, stopping when you reach the tiny village of Adela.
There, standing either side of stone steps, a pair of three storey houses with white painted walls, dark wooden shutters and a view that goes on forever. Two buildings, traditional, but restored to a fine standard; everything desired for contemporary living without losing any of the original appeal. If you’re searching for tranquility you may well have found it.
The ground floor of the larger house retains the flagstones it always had; once storerooms or maybe stables, now an eye-catching living space, cool in the hot days of summer but, in the way old byres were built to be, heat retaining when the temperature drops.
On the first floor, a dining room of good size, it will comfortably take a table seating eight; and then, for this is a topsy turvey house, it’s up a flight of stairs to a neat well fitted kitchen; a fully tiled bathroom, with tub, and a graceful bedroom, where even a brief glance from the window makes perfect sense of the curious layout.
Interior design of this 70m2 property has been kept deliberately unassuming. The plaster is white; the woodwork – floors, beams, doors, stained shades of chestnut and brown. A blank canvas for you to enhance. Whatever your taste in color, it will work.
At 15m2, the other building has an alternative plan. The ground floor, used partly for storage, has one room with an open fireplace, another contains beds. On the next level a lounge with woodblock floor and access to a patio. At the very top, a light and airy bedroom, complete with a walk in cupboard. Once more very simple decoration, plain walls with dark wood.
Part of a small community, Casas Adela is rural, but not difficult to access. It is ideal for the buyer seeking peace and quiet; a terrific family home or holiday property – or both – either dwelling has good letting potential, though the smaller, with its roof terrace would adapt very well. Outside is an area of ground, approx 10m2. Possible to buy next door land that has a ruin. Also included 3 rural pieces of land in the surrounding area of the village.
At just over two and a half hours both Lisbon and Porto Airports are a comfortable drive; Arganil, the nearest town, where there are full facilities and good shopping, is around 25 minutes away.
