In a pretty little village, maybe halfway between the market towns of Gois and Pampilhosa da Serra, stands a three bedroomed white cottage. A south facing house set high in the hills of Central Portugal, its location is a quiet rural place, sat at the head of a beautiful valley; the views from its sunny balcony are a pure delight.
With a habitable area of 130m2 over two floors the building has already been sympathetically updated – restored to current standards, but retaining original features, such as wooden floors and ceilings, where possible. The rooms, one of which has an open fireplace, are of useful size, have good natural light and are simply decorated – it’s to be sold fully furnished, a new owner could move in on completion.
The kitchen, which is large enough to accommodate a table, has fitted cupboards and is ¾ tiled in neutral colours. The bathroom, half tiled, is well laid out with good quality furniture, including a tub.
Outside there is a small ground floor terrace and a walled garden, the latter running to 80m2. It has steps and paths and mature fruit trees, but there is also hidden space, out of sight, accessed through the house, is a small inner courtyard where the old stone bread oven still sits. You will also find storage room. This package is completed by 3 pieces of land, sited close by – 2 for agricultural use, the third for forestry.
The locality is peaceful and unspoiled, but only 16 kilometres from the nearest town, where full services are to be found. The house is ideal for either full time relocation, as holiday accommodation, or a combination of the two. It’s in an area which is worth exploring, one peppered with small communities, most of which have a café/bar, there are some good restaurants and excellent River Beaches – it’s a great place for walking, biking and other outdoor pursuits, plus there’s a festival going on, somewhere close by, most weekends over the summer.
Road access is good with the major cities of Coimbra, Porto and Lisbon a comfortable drive, as is the Atlantic Coast, renowned for its beaches and surfing.
Services: mains water and electricity, fossa (septic tank); bottled gas can be purchased locally; telephone and Internet would be available.
