Property in central Portugal
Casa do Luciano
Casa do Luciano, built in the late 1940’s, is an elegant, detached village house of great character. Constructed of stone, in the traditional method, renovation has taken place over the years, for example external walls have been rendered, several new windows fitted and the roof retiled, but many original features remain and the building retains its charm. A grand place with a 70m2 area, and a habitable space of 211m2, one well looked after, but now ready for some refurbishment.
The main entrance to the property is at street level, though in keeping with local custom living accommodation is on the upper storeys. Currently, the ground floor, divided into two units, is used for storage but they are both spacious areas which could be put to other uses, each has independent access from the road.
On the first floor are 2 bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, and 2 good sized living spaces. Up a flight of wooden stairs are the kitchen (with open fireplace) and dining room, a hallway, two more bedrooms and a fully tiled bathroom with tub. The attic is easily accessible but has limited headspace – maybe not quite enough height for another adult bedroom, but certainly sufficient for a children’s play area or teenagers den.
Outside, reached via an external stone staircase, is a paved yard with BBQ/Bake oven – a walled garden, easily managed, a quiet, private space, perfect for terracotta pots full of Jasmin or Geraniums and a long lazy lunch with a glass of something cool; adjoined, and just as important, a gated parking place, a precious resource in the narrow cobbled streets. Additionally, accessed from the kitchen, is a roof terrace, somewhere to catch the morning sun, to sip coffee and to admire stunning views across village roofs to the wooded hillsides beyond.
This a lovely house for someone considering full time relocation, one set in a peaceful but lively community, tho not far from the busy market town of Gois where full services can be found – shops, banks, school, medical centre; cafes, bars and some very good places to eat. It’s quiet, but there’s plenty going on, particularly over the summer months, should you want to join in.
Alternatively, Holiday accommodation is a viable proposition. The local countryside, ideal for walking and biking is unspoiled and very beautiful, there are two good river beaches close by and the area as a whole is well worth exploring. Further afield, the University City of Coimbra is just over 30 minutes away, the Atlantic coast with its pristine beaches and great surfing, about an hour and with good access to the major road networks, the major airports at Porto and Lisbon are a comfortable drive.
